Search in the Bathurst Electorate for children that follow in the footsteps of Fred Hollows

Nominations have opened for the second Fred Hollows Humanity Award in New South Wales and Member for Bathurst Paul Toole is encouraging locals to get involved.

Professor Fred Hollows dedicated his life to helping others, saving the sight of disadvantaged people around the world.

The Fred Hollows Foundation is keeping Fred’s vision alive through an award which recognises Year 6 students who follow in Fred’s footsteps by showing care and compassion for others.

Community Grant to honour Anzac Traditions in Lyndhurst

Local Member for Bathurst Paul Toole and Minister for Veterans Affairs David Elliott announced Lyndhurst Soldiers Memorial Hall and Village Committee Inc. will receive $6,791 in NSW Government funding as part of a proud commitment to honour Australia’s servicemen and women.

With assistance from the Community War Memorials Fund, cleaning, painting and repairs to the façade and gates of the Lyndhurst Memorial Hall and Gates will take place, ensuring preservation of an iconic local heritage listed site.

A new era for TAFE NSW

A modernised structure for TAFE NSW will reduce overheads, direct more resources to frontline teaching and guarantee TAFE is meeting the training and skills needs of the Bathurst Electorate’s community and economy, Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said today.

The region will also benefit from refurbishments to facilities in Lithgow and an upgrade to all ICT infrastructure across Western NSW to provide students with greater access to facilitated online learning.

Winter planting to create 100 seasonal jobs

State-owned plantations in the Bathurst Electorate are among almost 8,000 hectares being replanted with more than eight million pine seedlings this winter.

Local Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said the seedlings had recently been dispatched from Forestry Corporation of NSW’s nurseries, creating more than 100 seasonal planting jobs in regional areas, including Bathurst, Lithgow and Oberon.

 “Without planting these seedlings in our local plantations, we would not have a softwood industry in this state,” Mr Toole said.
