$2 MILLION FOR EMERGENCY DROUGHT INITIATIVES IN BATHURST

Bathurst Regional Council is set to receive $2 million from the NSW Government to help it develop critical water initiatives during the worst drought on record.
This latest drought funding initiative follows the announcement earlier this month of the successful tender to undertake the $10 million upgrade to shore up the safety of the ageing Winburndale Dam wall which was built in 1930.
Bathurst MP Paul Toole announced the funding this morning (Monday, 26th August) as part of $65 million in emergency critical drought initiatives across the state.

$10 MILLION FOR WINBURNDALE DAM WALL UPGRADE

A project worth nearly $10 million see the Winburndale Dam given a major upgrade to strengthen the existing dam wall.

 

Bathurst MP Paul Toole said the work would not increase the capacity of the dam which holds 1700 megalitres and also acts as the city’s second water supply, servicing local parks, gardens and sporting fields.

 

However, the upgrade will ensure the dam remains safe in times of high inflows as well as improving some of the very old wooden pipes that carries the water to Bathurst.

HISTORIC AND CLASSIC CAR LOG BOOKS TO STAY

Historic and classic car enthusiasts will have more opportunities to hit the road outside club events thanks to the NSW Government making log books a permanent feature this week.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said 50,000 cars had participated in the log book scheme during its trial period.
“We know owners of these cars want to be able to take them out for a spin and share their love of these cars with others - that’s why we’ve made it easier for them to keep track of how often they drive them,” Mr Toole said.

CARCOAR’S NEW MULTI-PURPOSE COURTS LOOKING GOOD

The finishing touches are being put on Carcoar’s new multi-purpose courts in Naylor Street.

With support from the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnerships Fund to the tune of $16,000, Blayney Shire Council has been able to drive the project and now the courts are almost ready for use.

Bathurst MP Paul Toole said the NSW Government has also made available grants to council to build a new public amenities block adjacent to the courts with council about to call for tenders for the initiative.
