Member for Bathurst Paul Toole has delivered some exciting news for the Millthorpe Bowling Club.

Mr Toole today announced the club would receive a Stronger Country Communities Fund (SCCF) grant of $64,100 to give its bowling greens a much-needed makeover.

Club manager Julie Denzel and greenkeeper Peter Mullins agreed the announcement was perfectly timed as the work could be carried now there’s warmer weather across the region.

Mr Mullins said the aim is refurbish the main green near the clubhouse as well as installing new gutters, synthetic turf in certain areas and sand to the ditches.

“We also want to put up some shade cloth shelters around the perimeter of the greens to protect players from the elements, especially the hot summer sun.”

Mr Toole said the club was in the process of getting back on its feet after closing due to COVID-19.

“A facility such as the Millthorpe Bowling Club is important to the town and this funding will ensure the main green is in tip top condition, not only for locals who play bowls but also for visitors,” he said.

“Hopefully the restrictions imposed due to the pandemic will start to ease and the club can get back to some sort of normality and certainty.”
