Member for Bathurst Paul Toole has announced more funding for Lithgow’s Tony Luchetti Sports Ground, which will benefit from a further $181,280 in funding as part of the NSW Government Showground Stimulus program.

Mr Toole said Lithgow City Council would receive funding to upgrade and improve the use and condition of their infrastructure, and support jobs in the local economy.

“When COVID-19 hit it forced the postponement or cancellation of agricultural shows and many activities that showgrounds rely on for their income,” Mr Toole said.

“This investment by the NSW Government will provide a boost for our local showgrounds and the communities they serve by supporting tradies and suppliers with work and strengthening showground infrastructure for the future.”

The funding will be used to refurbish the restrooms and meeting rooms, making the amenities at the grounds much more functional.

“Showgrounds today are multi-use facilities for a range of activities from agricultural shows, rodeos and horse clubs to farmers markets, festivals, camping, men’s sheds, and sport and cultural events.” Mr Toole said.

“These upgrades will modernise the facilities, making them more functional and easier to maintain”

The showground stimulus program is generating economic activity in local economies impacted by COVID-19 while supporting the long-term sustainability of showgrounds right across NSW.

“Our showgrounds are at the heart of communities including serving as evacuation centres during bushfire and flood so we want to keep them in good shape.” Mr Toole said

This announcement comes off the back of over $47,000 in funding announced last month for the Lithgow Sportsground’s irrigation system.
